Energy
Bills
In
recent years, the US Congress has considered a number of energy
bills that can potentially impact America's energy costs,
energy supply and energy security. Some energy bills have emphasized
low cost domestic energy sources while other energy bills have
emphasized renewable energy sources. As these energy bills are
being considered, consumers have to be aware of how they may impact
energy costs.
The Energy
Policy Act is a comprehensive energy bill that was passed
by both the House and Senate. The house and senate versions of
the energy bill differ substancially. The differences in the energy
bills are being resolved in a joint House-Senate Committee.
In April 2003,
the House of Representatives passed Energy Policy Act, a comprehensive
energy legislation. In July 2003, Senate passed an energy bill
that was identical to the energy bills passed by a Democratic
controlled Senate a year ago. The shape of a final energy bill
will depend on negotiations with the House. The Coalition for
Affordable and Reliable Energy (CARE) viewed the passage of the
House energy bill as "bringing the country one step closer
to a more secure energy future."

Use CARE's
online system to write your legislator about energy
bills. Send a letter and an email to your legistlator and
tell them to pass energy bills and take a multi-emissions approach
to cleaner air. CARE is currently urging members of Congress to
support final passage of H.R. 6, the 2003 Energy Policy Act energy
bill and to support sound multi-emissions legislation while opposing
legislation that imposes extreme emissions caps.
