Alabama

Alabama has the 13th lowest retail electricity prices in the nation. Alabama's average retail rate of $56.00/MWh was 17 percent below the national average. Its low power prices are attributable to its high proportional coal generation (62 percent) in combination with low cost hydroelectric power (5 percent) that offset its high nuclear investment costs and new gas combined cycle capacity.
