Florida

 |
| Florida has the 14th highest retail electricity prices
in the nation. The 2000 state average rate of $69.10/MWh was 3 percent
above the national average retail rate. Florida rates are above the
national average high because of their nuclear investment ($4.4 billion)
and high delivery fuel costs. Roughly 38 percent of in-state utility
generation comes from coal-fired stations. These stations have relatively
high delivery coal costs ($1.65/MMBtu) because of their long distance
from their coal suppliers. Although high, coal costs remain well below
the cost of natural gas that has limited pipeline capacity and residual
oil. |
