Indiana

Indiana has the 9th lowest retail electricity prices in the nation. The 2000 state average rate of $51.30/MWh was 24 percent below the national average retail rate. Indiana power rates are low because of high proportion of low cost coal generation. In 2000, 95 percent of in-state utility generation was from coal-fired stations, ranking it second only to West Virginia in coal market share. With its low costs, it is not surprising that its utility deregulation activities are far behind most states.
