Louisiana
 |
 |
| Louisiana has the 34th lowest retail electricity prices
in the nation. The 2000 state average rate of $66.00/MWh was 2 percent
below the national average retail rate. The state depends upon a mix
of natural gas, nuclear, coal-fired units to meet load requirements.
Low natural gas prices were offset by high nuclear investment costs
of $5.6 billion. However, the competitive priced nuclear plants were
able to maintain high capacity factors to moderate Louisiana power prices. |
