Michigan

Michigan has the 13th highest retail electricity prices in the nation. The 2000 state average rate of $71.10/MWh was 14 percent above the national average retail rate. Michigan power rates are high because of its high delivered fuel costs and large nuclear investment ($6.2 billion). In 2000, 67 percent of in state utility generation was from coal units. These units used low sulfur coals shipped from Central Appalachia and Wyoming that had an average delivered cost of $1.33/MMBtu or 7 percent above the national average coal price.
