Mississippi
 |
 |
| Mississippi has the 19th lowest retail electricity prices
in the nation. The 2000 state average rate of $59.30/MWh was 12 percent
below the national average retail rate. Mississippi power rates are
relatively low because of high proportion of low cost coal generation.
However, several higher cost utilities depended upon higher cost residual
oil units during 1998. In addition, its coal advantages were further
offset by its relatively high nuclear investment ($3.4 billion). |
