North Carolina

North Carolina has the 22nd highest retail electricity prices in the nation. The 2000 state average rate of $65.10/MWh was 3 percent below the national average retail rate. Although North Carolina has several low cost, energy efficient coal units, rates were pushed higher because of their large nuclear investment ($10.6 billion).
