 |
| Pennsylvania has the 18th highest retail electricity prices
in the nation. The 2000 state average rate of $65.90/MWh was 2 percent
above the national average retail rate. Although some in-state coal
based utilities such as West Penn Power have rates well below the national
average, most systems have high rates. In most cases, their high rates
are attributable to very high nuclear investment ($15.2 billion) and
use of some high cost oil steam generation. Roughly 59 percent of in-state
utility generation comes from coal-fired stations. |
