South Carolina

South Carolina has the 11th lowest retail electricity prices in the nation. The 2000 state average rate of $54.90/MWh was 18 percent below the national average retail rate. South Carolina power rates are low because of their low cost coal (42 percent) and modest nuclear investment ($1.9 billion) and modest distribution costs.
