 |
| Texas has the 28th lowest retail electricity prices in
the nation. The 2000 state average rate of $64.60/MWh was 4 percent
below the national average retail rate. Texas power rates reflect the
large use of higher priced natural gas and high power distribution costs
to service rural areas. For some systems, rates also reflect high nuclear
investment costs ($24 billion) used to supply 10 percent of the in state
utility generation. Coal units account for 37 percent of state generation. |
